Year 7 Christmas Stories – A Christmas Miracle

It was Christmas Eve, and everyone was sleeping soundly. The clock ticked towards midnight but I couldn’t sleep. I looked out of the window and saw snowflakes glistening in the silvery moonlight like stars in the sky or diamonds being flung into the air reflecting the light everywhere. Then something caught my eye. Something shiny. Something with glitter flying behind it. Then it came towards me and all of a sudden my eyelids became droopy and I suddenly felt the urge to sleep. I lay down in my bed feeling tired but something was keeping me awake! And then I remembered to close the blinds but for some reason I didn’t want too. I couldn’t sleep as I wanted to know what that thing was. Then I heard the door creek and wondered if it really was him. The one I had waiting for. . . I thought to myself, should I go down there to see him or see if he had seen and eaten all of the biscuits and milk or taken all of the carrots I had left him for all of his reindeer. Just as I left the room I hesitated to make sure that none of the floorboards was going to creek. I was on the stairs and my heart sunk when I saw that it wasn’t Santa Claus but instead Dad coming back from his night shift. I was heartbroken. I checked the old grandfather clock and saw that it was 12:45PM. I was almost asleep so I went to bed. Maybe Santa was coming at 01:00AM…? Or maybe 12:50…? Dad came upstairs and kissed me goodnight, as he thought I was sleeping. Then I got up and got a drink of water but when I was in the kitchen I heard a door open and close again. Dad probably forgot to close the door again, I thought. I looked out of the window and saw nothing but I heard a sound as if hooves where hitting the ground. Was it just my imagination? I ran up the stairs to see if St Nicholas had landed on the roof. I SAW HIM!!! This must have been the happiest day of my life!!! I waved to him and he waved back at me! I wasn’t sure what to do next but I’m pretty sure he was. He jumped down my neighbours chimney and came out of their front door. I wondered if he was afraid of being seen.
Maybe he was just delivering the presents. Now he was walking towards my house I swiftly ran down the stairs and opened the front door. He looked startled at first but when I said “hi’’ he relaxed again. He answered back very formally “Greetings’’, he said,” shouldn’t you be in bed now young lady’’. I answered excitedly,” Yes, but I really wanted to see you and I just couldn’t sleep through this wonderful moment”,” Ok then”, laughed Santa,” what is your name?” questioned Nicholas,” Josephine Judith Green”, I answered surprised expecting him to know it well. “Wonderful”, Exclaimed Santa. “May I see your reindeer?” I asked, “Yes you may” he answered. Hurray, I thought, Santa whistled “What are you doing”, I asked, “calling them over”; “Who?”; “My reindeer”; “Oh ok”. The reindeer landed on the street and gently hit the ground with their hooves. “Jump in we can go for a little ride in the slay”, “O…o…ok” I said nervously. “Is is safe?” I questioned. “Of course Josephine, why would I let you ride an unsafe slay”? “Ok” I said, climbing into the slay. “Is it cold up there? If it is I’d better get a coat”; “No but get your coat just in case you are cold”. “Have you ever ridden your reindeer?” I asked. “Yes, do you want too?”, “YES!” I exclaimed. “Which reindeer Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen or the newest member Rudolph?”; “Can I ride Dasher?”; “Of course you can. Do you want to fly on him or just stay on the ground?”; “Can we talk when we are flying on the slay?”; “Yes, we can” replied Santa. “Come on boys lets fly!” he shouted. They all grunted and we flew away. The view was beautiful. “So Josie, do you want to fly?”; “YES!” I exclaimed. “Just one question – is it scary”? “You’ll see, I can’t tell you everything it might feel different to me than you but I find it amazing” Santa explained. “Ok” I said, “I do have a horse of my own. Is it possible if you made him fly?”. “Yeeeeees, I guess it’s possible” he answered. “Could he fly with us?”; “Yes, if you want him to?”; “Sure. Can we land so I can get him?”; “Yes”; “Ok, please give me a moment”.
I came out of the stables holding Latino’s reins and showed him to Santa, who threw a whole load of magic dust at him. As Latino was lifted off the ground, poor horsie was mortified. His fear got much worse as he joined the galloping reindeer. I could hear Latino’s crying neigh from inside Santa’s slay and it made me sad. Father Christmas suggested I should return him back to his stall to rest as he lived too much for one night. I thought I needed some rest too. As I said goodbye to Santa I hoped I would hear “See you next year”… but he just answered “Bye”. My eyelids went heavy and I fell asleep in my bed. The next morning I followed my daily routine. I went to the stables to feed Latino. To my surprise, he was no longer in his stall but was in the paddock looking very puzzled floating above it. I realised that this was not just a dream and it was actually real. Santa was real!!! I really did ride dasher and rode in Santa’s sledge!!! I saw Rudolph the most known reindeer in the world!!! I was amazed as now I owned a flying horse.
