Year 8 Poetry inspired by Wilfred Owen’s Anthem for Doomed Youth

What deadly plague infests our land today?

Choking the air out of our lungs.

And the light out of our eyes.

Only sweet Isolation can save you now.

No distinction between you or them; no morality for who or when,

just a deadly blue, snaking its way across your face.

No wailing voice can save you. No chorus of cries will redeem you

All you can do is wait, as you think to your self; I’m too late!

What medicines can be used to prevent it?

What herbs can slow it?

With a hopeful heart you say your goodbyes.

As your family wails and you die!

There flowers the anger of the mind

Slowing the setting of the sun and the rising of the moon.
