Discursive writing linked to Romeo and Juliet

Imagine if your son or daughter married at the age of 16.    Would you allow this to happen? Or would you say no? Well, what if I told you that our government does allow this to happen, with consent of course, and in Scotland your 16 year old can get married anyway., with or without your consent. How could they allow it! Your child, going off to marry someone and you don’t even have a say!

I believe that the legal age that you can marry should be 18 years old.  This is not only because you are legally an adult but  because this is when you fully mature. This is a big factor for me in why the legal age should be changed to 18, because when you are younger you tend not to fully understand what true love is (perhaps some do but from what I understand it is not very likely). This can have huge consequences for a marriage, as later in life the couple may decide that they don’t love each other anymore or never did love each other, resulting in a divorce.

Another factor in why the legal age of marriage should be changed is, a 16 year old couple may have a child together. This is seen as not a good idea in society today because they are still legally children so how could you expect them to have the responsibility to care for their child fully as in some cases they are still in high school! The couple would have to rely on their families for support which is not fair on the families at all.
